WW2 Historical context essay

World War Two started with the battle between Poland and Germany. Germany stated that it had claimed parts of northern Poland and Poland was going to defend itself. The Germans used its numerous tanks and planes to destroy Poland’s factories and attack the Polish troops. Finally, Germany conquered the northern parts of Poland. After the attack on Poland, Germany moved on to France. The French thought that they were protected by their Maginot Line which was a long line of fortresses between France and Germany. Even though they had the Maginot Line, the German tanks just went around it and attacked France on May, 10, 1940. The German forces were even able to get though the great fortress, Eben Emael in Belgium by and exploded holes into the roof of the fort. Brittan was the next target, so they elected a new prime minister. Winston Churchill proved to be a fierce leader and a hero since he managed to keep Brittan safe and give the British army a new weapon, the spitfire fighter plane. While all of that was happening, Franklin Roosevelt tried to keep the United States out of the war, but it was inevitable because of the Japanese hostility against its neighboring countries. The U.S. placed an oil embargo on the Japanese, and the Japanese, in turn, made a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. That caused the U.S. to react and join the war. American pilots drop atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and that caused the Japanese to surrender.
